Privacy Policy

Venn is built around data minimization. Here is a plain-language account of what we collect, why, and what we don't keep.

What we collect

IP address

Your IP address is used for routing WebSocket connections during a chat session. It is not stored after the session ends and is not linked to any user profile or persistent identifier.

Timezone (country hint)

Your browser's timezone is used to make a coarse country guess (for example, "Europe/Berlin" → Germany) to assist with matching. This is a client-side calculation only; the specific timezone string is not sent to our servers. The country code derived from it is used only for the duration of the matching session.

Chat content

Messages you send are relayed to your matched partner in real time via WebSocket. They are not stored in a database at any point. When your session ends, the message content is gone. We do not have the ability to retrieve, review, or produce the content of past conversations.

What we do not collect

• Names, email addresses, or account information — there are no accounts
• Location beyond a coarse country hint
• Persistent identifiers or device fingerprints
• Conversation history or logs

Third-party services

Google Fonts

Venn loads fonts (Bricolage Grotesque, Instrument Sans, Spline Sans Mono) from Google Fonts. This means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when you load any Venn page, and Google's standard terms and privacy policy apply to that request. Your IP address is sent to Google as part of normal HTTP requests.

Google AdSense

Venn displays advertisements served by Google AdSense on non-chat pages (landing, setup, searching, between-chats). AdSense uses cookies and may collect data about your ad interactions in accordance with Google's privacy policy and applicable privacy laws. You can manage Google ad personalization settings at adssettings.google.com.

Ads are never shown inside the chat screen.

Cloudflare

Venn's infrastructure is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes network traffic, including IP addresses, as part of providing CDN and DDoS protection services. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to this processing.

Cookies

Venn itself does not set cookies. Google AdSense may set cookies for advertising purposes as described above. The theme preference (light/dark) and accent color are stored in your browser's sessionStorage, not cookies, and are not transmitted to our servers.

Children

Venn is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from users under 18. If you believe a minor has used this service, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
